This is the second in a short series of stories (The Feathers Series- you'll find out why one day if I ever get to the end!) that came out of Whistle and Shelley daring me to write a romance entry for the Lancer Writers Awards, pairing up Johnny with whichever Love Interest of the Week took my (and his!) fancy. I opted for Jessamie, from Shadow of a Dead Man.
So, Candle in the Sun was written as a light hearted 'Johnny and Jessamie get away to San Francisco for a romantic tryst' piece. This one is a little bleaker, as Jessamie ponders choices and decisions.
If you aren't familiar with the episode, then you need to know that Jessamie's son Grady is the result of rape, and that she's hidden out from the father's family for years – they were sending bounty hunters after her because she killed her rapist - and that she used the Lancer name while she was hiding. So she's a bit wary and Grady thinks his name is Grady Lancer.
Anyhow, here's the story
